Imitate Excellence

Emulate the virtues of those you admire. Reflect on the qualities of your role models. By studying and imitating their actions, cultivate wisdom, courage, justice, and temperance in your own life.

Role Models

Identify individuals, past or present, who embody the Stoic virtues you wish to cultivate. Consider: What specific qualities do you admire in them? How did they act in the face of adversity? What principles guided their decisions? Research their lives, read their writings, and immerse yourself in their example. Now, choose one or two specific virtues they exemplify and identify concrete actions you can take today to emulate those virtues in your daily life. Write down how you can emulate their virtues in your daily life. Reflect on your progress at the end of the day. As Seneca said, "Choose someone whose way of life as well as words, and whose very face as he mirrors the character that lies behind it, have won your approval. Be always pointing him out to yourself, either as your guardian or as your model." How can you make their example a guiding force in your life?
